The Rummer Hotel - or as it was once known as The Rummer - occupies a building dating from the 1740's. However, a building has stood on the site since the 13th Century.

 

Since 1973, there have been at least two sightings of a male apparition dressed in "an ordinary shirt and pair of trousers" in the cellar bar, a woman in white and that of a teenage girl with long dark hair by the main staircase.
